"You can paint anything."
.it says so right on the front of the magazine... But can you really???
.. Well yes, lots of stuff you can... I notice alot of items at the thrift stores that are someone else's failed project..... they believed the magazine and painted something that REALLY should not have been painted.
Look carefully, sometimes it's hard to tell ... but if it's paper on pressed wood that just looks like wood... then all you will end up with is painted paper.. it might work out ok?????.. on the other hand it might just bubble and peel and be an awful mess...you'll spend alot of money and alot of time and end up with a big nothing. :(
If you have something you CAN paint.... do yourself a favor research HOW to paint it... ask the paint person at the store... Sure Sure... you hate to read directions...you hate to ask... well then if you take one bit of advice from me...
remember
USE an oil based primer on raw wood... if you don't ....in a couple of months the knots are going to start to show thru.. you beautiful paint is going to be covered with ugly brown rings... you can paint over them as many times as you want and they will always come back until you finally bite the bullet and sand it down and give it a coat of oil based primer.... then paint away... pastel pink.. heirloom white... it will all stay pretty for years and be worth all the work.... ... Even the guy the guy at the store will tell you that latex primer will work... welllll be safe... use the oil based and then you'll be sure.
Choose your projects carefully. Life's too short and paint is expensive, there's too many fun projects to tackle ...you dont want to have to do the same one over and over... Do it right the first time and move one...
...
The Size of things.. good to know.
Here are the standard sizes for towels bed linens etc that fit most of our beds... I like to know this stuff from a sewing point of view..... I try to avoid sewing as much as I can.. but.. once in a while you just have to. So mainly for my own convenience ..I store the size of these everyday things here. it's easy for me to find and maybe it will come in handy for you sometime too.
This also comes in handy when you are shopping in a thrift store.. because sometimes things are not marked...or marked correctly . I always have a tape measure in my purse..you too RIGHT?

BEDSKIRT
Also known as petit-skirt or dust ruffle. Bedskirts fit the exact
dimensions of the box spring and fall to the floor. Bed-skirts can come with continuous corners, which have no split at the foot end cornersthat fit around a frame. Bed-skirts can also come with split corners, which have a split at the corner of the foot of the bed in order to fitaround a bed frame. Many bed-skirts today are bed-skirt panels that are pinned onto the top of the box spring, in-between the mattress and box spring, adjusting to various drops up to 22 inches. Finishes for bed-skirts are eithertailored (straight drop from the top to bottom of the bed-skirt) with single pleatson either side of the bed and one pleat at the foot, pleated (which have invertedpleats around the sides and foot of the bed), or ruffled (the fabric is gathered in a2 or 3 to 1 ratio creating the fullness). The bed-skirt drop is measured from the topof the box spring to the floor. The size is exact to your bed size.
BOX SPRING COVER
Made to decorate the box spring in place of a bedskirt. The box spring cover fitshe exact dimensions of the box spring. Resembling a fitted sheet, the box spring cover is usually made of decorative fabric and provides a cleaner, more contemporary look. Measurements are the size of the box spring, i.e. twin, full, queen etc.
FITTED SHEET
Made to fit snugly over the mattress, with stitched gussets at the corners andlastic at the corners or around the entire edge of the fitted sheet. Correctly fitted to the size of the mattress pad, the fitted sheet should not cause the mattressto bow (too short in the gusset), or fit loosely (too long in the gusset). Our fine linen
sources make fitted sheets for deep and extra deep mattresses. Traditional European beds use a flat sheet in place of a fitted, with folded and tucked corners wrapped around the mattress. Measurements should include the size of the bed and the depth of the mattress
FLAT SHEET
,also called a top sheet. Turn-back, the amount that is folded down at the head of the should be ample (10 to 18 inches) with enough to tuck between the mattress and box spring at the foot of the bed. Our fine linen sources make larger flat sheets toaccommodate deep and extra deep mattresses. Most flat sheets have a stitched or attached cuff on the turn-back. This cuff is a stitched or attached band of fabric that finishesthe look of the turn-back. Mitered corners on the turn-back are usually made to order.Measurements should included the size of the bed, the depth of the mattress (including any pad or enhancers) and enough extra to tuck between the mattress and box spring on both sides of the bed.
